About simplymatters

Hi, I’m Brittany. I’m a mom of three, a part-time physician assistant, and the wife of a physician. Between church involvement, kids activities, and trying to maintain time for fun with family and friends, life is full at the Lueking house just as it probably is in yours!

As my kids have begun growing out of the toddler phase, family discipleship has become one of my greatest joys and passions. It’s not fancy, long, or serious at our house—in fact, it’s often on-the-go and laced with goofiness. But we keep it simple and focus on what matters, so its sustainable and we’re seeing fruit from it.

Yet every holiday season, our kids lost interest as we switched to various well-written but text-heavy seasonal resources. I started to wonder… why are our kids’ bookshelves full of sing-songy picture books, yet we expect them to dial in on lengthy texts during special seasons like Advent?

Speaking our kids’ language and meeting them where they are matters. For all of us, simplicity matters too (the last thing we parents need at Christmas is a super involved daily craft—can I get an amen?).

So I finally sat down to create the Advent devotional our family had been craving—theologically rich, whimsically illustrated, written in bouncy rhyme, and filled with completely approachable questions and activities to help kids understand why Jesus’ birth is so worthy of our celebration.

Writing a book wasn’t on my bingo card—I initially planned this just for our own family—but what came out what really special, and when our oldest used some of the verbiage from this devotional to express her own personal understanding of the Gospel, I knew I needed to share this more broadly.

Regardless of your family dynamic or lifestyle or where you are on your faith journey, these resources are for you. I’m praying for you and in your corner.

Gratefully,

Brittany
